The classic Tatsunoko Productions anime Science Ninja Team Gatchaman will finally have its own live-action movie adaptation! To be produced by Nikkatsu and will be distributed by TOHO, it is set for a Summer 2013 release.
Tori Matsuzaka (.hack//The Movie, Samurai Sentai Shinkenger) will star as Ken the Eagle, Go Ayano (Kamen Rider 555, Rurouni Kenshin) as Joe the Condor, Ayame Goriki (Mirai Nikki, IS) as Jun the Swan, Tatsuomi Hamada (Ultraman Zero, Gokaiger vs. Gavan) as Jinpei the Swallow and Ryohei Suzuki (Hana Kimi) as Ryu the Owl.
The five serve as agents of the International Science Organization in Tokyo in the near future. Galactor, a mysterious group whose technology far surpasses that of humans, has declared war on the entire world and has already subjugated half of it. Dr. Nanbu has assembled these five young heroes as humanity's last hope.
The movie will be directed by Toya Sato (live-action Grave of the Fireflies, Sexy Voice and Robo, Gokusen), Yusuke Watanabe (20th Century Boys, Gantz, 2013 Dragon Ball Z movie) will write the script and Shinji Aramaki (Appleseed) in-charge with the character designs.
Takashi Yamazaki (Space Battleship Yamato) is handling the visual effects and it is said that movie will have more CG cuts than Yatterman (1,300) and Gantz (1,000). The action scenes are supervised by action director Koike Tasuro (Kamen Rider W FOREVER, Kamen Rider Movie Wars MEGAMAX, Last Samurai). Filming of the movie begins this October 15.
