Kyoryuu Sentai Zyuranger 04 – The Legend of the Legendary Weapons

The quest for the Legendary Weapons continues and even if they can summon the Guardian Beasts, these creatures doesn't want to help our heroes and they want them to acquire the powers themselves. Makes sense, especially since the weapons came from some five-headed dragon. With only 12 hours remaining, can the Zyurangers obtain the Legendary Weapons before they will be transformed into stone?

The episode was a great way to conclude the story arc as the action in this episode escalates and that our heroes faced more challenges to prove their worth of handling the Legendary Weapons. As for the challenges they faced, it reminded me a lot of the classic RPG quests you need to fulfill for you to get an upgrade or a new weapon. Though the challenges in this episode doesn't include a mini boss (much to my disappointment), it was exciting to see how the Zyurangers can finish all the challenges.

One of my favorite challenges that they faced in this episode would be pulling the evil sword out of the stone. Aside that it felt like an evil version of the King Arthur mythos that instead of becoming a king, you will end up becoming possessed by a demon, I just loved those moments that your ally is willing to sacrifice his body and soul just for him/her to perform the necessary task. Did I mention that it was fun watching Geki going berserk?

Before the Zyurangers get a hold of the Legendary Weapons, Bandora appears and stalled the Zyurangers, causing them to lose all the time they have! Now that they are slowly turning into stone, Geki has no more option, but to appeal to the weapons and convince them that they are worthy. Seriously, this is one of the craziest methods on obtaining a weapon in a TV series. Didn't help that part of Geki's lines was that they are created to destroy evil! I mean, these weapons came from a five-headed dragon that terrorized a village for crying out loud! Not to my surprise, Geki's appeal worked the Legendary Weapons just went straight in their hands.

The Legendary Weapons obviously went directly to the people who are best known in using it. For example, the sword went directly to Geki's hands while the bow and arrow went straight to Mei's hands. In action, I love that some of them can do something nifty, like Dan's spears that he can combine. What's more is that once our heroes transform into the Zyurangers, the Legendary Weapons also transforms as well. Their transformed forms are really cool.

The transformed weapons also retained the same traits it had when it was still in its regular Legendary Weapon mode... with some added extras. The five weapons can combine and become the Howling Cannon! The overall design of the Howling Cannon feels a bit ordinary to me, but I love the idea of the holes of their respective weapons becoming the tubes where the laser of the Howling Cannon to come out. As for the actual finisher move, it feels a bit plain to me.

Now what happened to the kid and its mom? The kid's mom was just in the castle where the Legendary Weapons are located, they were able to save the mother and the kid reverts back to normal thanks to the tears coming from his mom... okaaaay. Anyways, the resolution to this side plot feels forced and a bit too cliché to my taste, but hey, at least it worked and that's all that matters. With the Legendary Weapons in their hands, our heroes have more fire power to defeat the evil Witch Bandora!
