Japanese Politicians Plans on Building A Real, Working Gundam [UPDATED]

In an upcoming broadcast on Nico Nico Live, members of Japan's Liberal Democratic Party are said to discuss the idea of building a real life Gundam! Wait, what?!

By Gundam, a working 60-foot tall robot that maybe used as part of the country's defense force. Back in 2008, it was estimated that working on a working 1/1 scale Gundam would cost US$725,000,000 for parts and materials alone and that does not include the labor and the needed research to build the said machine!

The big question is, what's the point in discussing on plans on building a fictional giant robot? Details about the it will be revealed on a live, 12-hour marathon stream on Nico Nico Live on Thursday.

Masaaki Taira and Hideki Niwa, two members of Japan's House of Representatives, will speak during the 8:00 p.m. panel with their guest, novelist Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam UC/Unicorn).
