Sad news for Studio Ghibli fans, it was confirmed that former Studio Ghibli public relations head, Junichi Nishioka and the current Ghibli Museum public relations head have both acknowledged that Ghibli will not release a new film for this year.
Nishioka mentioned at the Kyōsō Open Forum in Yokohama that co-founders Hayao Miyazaki and Isao Takahata are both working on separate films and both are more than a year from completion.
Nishioka later recapped on Miyazaki's words that Studio Ghibli's finances are riding on Miyazaki's next film, and he said with a laugh that if these films are not finished then Studio Ghibli will fold.
